Sustainability Management
What is our goal?
We are committed to the overall social responsibility of the Studierendenwerk. In all areas, we want to develop our processes and structures further according to the principles of sustainability and the common good. To this end, we regularly involve our customers and cooperation partners. Transparency and comprehensibility of our actions and our sustainability goals are important to us. In addition, we aim to develop our expertise in this area continuously - so that studying in Darmstadt is a sustainable success.
How do we do this?
We regularly set ourselves verifiable goals in the balance of economic, social and ecological aspects. Management and quality management tools support us in collecting and processing the necessary data and key figures and in managing the Studierendenwerk. An elementary component is the materiality analysis carried out in 2018 and updated in 2021. In the process, we identified the most significant fields of action for sustainable corporate management. Subsequently, we introduced the Sustainability Balanced Scorecard (SBSC) in 2018, which acts as a tool for managing, reviewing the corporate goals set. An update follows regularly.
In 2020, we implemented various projects in the context of sustainability: in the Mensa Stadtmitte, we introduced waste separation in the dining area and supplemented the canteen offering, for example, with insect burgers, homemade organic pasta and new vegan recipes in the spirit of more sustainable catering. Sustainable procurement and mobility are other areas that we are actively addressing and will expand in the future. In addition to that, we regularly conduct internal training for employees on the topic of sustainability in order to ensure that all employees are aware of this important crosscutting issue and to anchor it in their daily activities. In this way, we want to achieve that the Studierendenwerk pulls together for more sustainability in all its areas. In addition, we participate in many public events on the topic of sustainability or organize them ourselves in order to reach as many people as possible beyond the boundaries of the Studierendenwerk and to motivate them to develop their own lives in a sustainable manner. Only by acting together, we are able to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
