Previous networking meetings
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the brunch was held for the third time on a slightly rainy fall Saturday (10/15-22). This time on the campus of the university: in the foyer of the new student house. The catering came from our university catering and was served in the campus restaurant Schöffers right next door.
More than 60 people accepted the invitation. Mrs. Amann from the family office of the h_da and Prof. Warzecha (chairman of the administrative board of the Studierendenwerk and vice president of the TU Darmstadt), welcomed the adult and young guests present.
The brunch is a joint event of the Family Office (h_da), the Family Service Office (TU DA), the student councils of both universities - and this year for the first time also that of the EHD and the Studierendenwerk Darmstadt/Social Counselling. Part-time studies/studying with a child (TU DA) was also actively involved this year.
With the brunch, we want to offer students with children a more suitable networking opportunity than the "usual" actions around the orientation weeks with the parties and pub nights.
And this was well received: about 42 adults and 25 children brunched, played, exchanged ideas, asked the advisors present and talked to Prof. Warzecha.
The cooperation partners were able to spontaneously compensate for the short notice cancellation of the "Rotzfrechen Spielmobil" by improvising. Even before the brunch started, toys, mats, balls and books were fetched from parent-child rooms and from home and set up. The mood at the brunch - despite the moderate weather and this complication - was very nice and relaxed. The parents stayed for a long time and visibly enjoyed the offer together with their children.
The offer is so well received that we want to hold the brunch every semester in the future. We are therefore already planning how we can organize and make this possible.
"Rotzfrech" networked - stress-free Sunday morning atmosphere to create, with action options, speak: Tobe possibilities for the small ones - altogether conditions, with which studying parents can meet far away from lectures and examinations casually, exchange and inform - was the goal of the organizers.
h_da and TU, the Asten and the Studierendenwerk once again invited to a brunch on October 19, 2019 at the beginning of the winter semester. The organizing team, the Service Center Family and the Service Center Studying with Children of the TU, the family office of the h_da, the social counseling of the Studierendenwerk Darmstadt as well as childcare facilities close to the campus informed about the care and counseling offers and were available for questions.
The event was also very popular for the second time - this time, due to the weather, it was mainly held indoors - and more than 50 children had fun on the stage of the Mensa Stadtmitte playing with the games offered by the Rotzfreche Spielmobil, while in the side wing about 40 parents learned more and talked animatedly, for example about the many challenges of managing a study program with a child. "Everyday study with a child, care in emergency situations, financing issues ..." were just a few of the many topics with which students with children approached the organizers.
According to the 21st Social Survey, six percent of students nationwide have one or more children. "At the TU and h_da, that's over 2,000," Ulrike Laux knew to report. "Strengthening family study ability" is anchored in the mission statement of the Studierendenwerk, the managing director continued in her short speech, emphasizing the importance of a suitable network and the factor of communication. The brunch showed how relaxed desire and reality can find each other.
The summary of the organizers: "Also this year all around successful, between 10 and 13 o'clock active bustle, inside and later also outside, in the play corner, at the tables, with the indoor play offers of the play mobile on the stage of the Otto Bernd hall, among the guests, with the hosts. Everyone agreed - especially the students: The format may continue to establish itself!"
