Even though we had rainy weather, we were motivated and on our way to R\u00fcdesheim. After arriving there, we headed towards the \u201cNiederwalddenkmal\u201d, well equipped with raincoats and umbrellas. We walked through a beautiful old town and got a first impression of small picturesque alleys with timbered houses and many wine taverns. Directly behind the old town, the hiking trail took us into the vineyards and we could already see our destination, the \u201cNiederwalddenkmal\u201d, and a lovely view of the Rhine Valley. \"\"<\/p>\n

With this end in view, the ascent on the hill was easily managed. At the top, we enjoyed the view and informed ourselves about the \u201cNiederwalddenkmal\u201d, which is a commemoration of the founding of the German Empire in 1871 after the end of the Franco-Prussian War. Instead of the planned picnic, we grabbed a bite to eat at a snack bar so that we stayed dry. Afterwards, we hiked back to the old town. A small group of students chose the comfortable way back and took the cable car instead. Back in R\u00fcdesheim, there was still plenty of time left to discover hidden corners of the old town, to warm up in a cozy caf\u00e9 or to taste the regional wine.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t

\"\"<\/p>\n

Many students arrived at the meeting point to join our tutors at the highlight tour through the \u201cHessisches Landesmuseum\u201d. Part of the tour were i. a. the sections of art, cultural and natural history. In the latter department, the students gained an insight into the history of Neanderthals.
\nAfterwards, we gazed at the collections in the Zoology section, which have their origins in the \u201cNatural History Cabinet\u201d of Duke Ludwig X. and cover a representative range of mammal, bird, mollusc and coral species. Some objects of recently extinct species were also displayed, such as the quagga. \"\"<\/p>\n

There was simply no way around the \u201cpeale\u2019s mastodon\u201d, which is about 15,000 years old and was excavated 1801 in the U.S. In the art and cultural history section, the \u201cTrans-Siberian Railway\u201d (1961) by Joseph Beuys \u2013 one of the major German artists of the second half of the 20th century \u2013 provided great interest and topics for discussion among the students.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>

At the start of the winter semester, our tutors from the Intercultural Tutors Team (ITT) have planned - together with TUtor International - a treasure hunt through Darmstadt for you.
\nOn a sunny autumn day, the students \u2013 divided in small groups and each of them accompanied by tutors \u2013 set out to hunt for \u201ctreasures\u201d, which were several places in Darmstadt, with riddles or tasks awaiting them.
\nBesides of \u201cclassical\u201d places like Staatstheater, Gro\u00dfer Woog and Mathildenh\u00f6he, this time the \u201cArcade of the Fundamental Rights in the German Constitution\u201d, the Jugendstilbad and the Memorial at Kapellplatz were newly added to the \u201ctreasure map\u201d.
\nAll riddles and tasks were challenging in different ways: At the memorial at Kapellplatz you had to deal with historical facts about the place or at the Mathildenh\u00f6he you had to take photos in a creative way, which you can see in the group pictures below.<\/p>\n

A reward (or a \u201csmall treasure\u201d) was prepared for everyone at the final station \u201cPrinz-Georgs-Garten\u201d: all students got a free ticket for the \u201cSchlosskeller\u201d and the first two groups were surprised with a voucher for the popular \u201cCaf\u00e9 Chaos\u201d.
\nLast but not least: For the next treasure hunt, we will \u2013 of course \u2013 think of new tasks, riddles and \u201ctreasures\u201d for you!<\/p>\n

Trip to Ludwigsh\u00f6he + Picnic (23.09.2018)<\/b>\">Trip to Ludwigsh\u00f6he + Picnic (23.09.2018)<\/b>\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t

For our second event during this semester, we went to Ludwigsh\u00f6he in Darmstadt, in cooperation with the Exchange Network Darmstadt (END). After having walked together from B\u00f6llenfalltor to Ludwigsh\u00f6he, we had a great view over Darmstadt and could even see for example the Frankfurt Skyline. For many of the participants it was the first time on Ludwigsh\u00f6he.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We were not frightened by the stormy weather and had our picnic as planned. Meanwhile the participants had the possibility to get to know each other. Afterwards some of the students went up the tower (\u201cLudwigsturm\u201d) to have an even better view, whereas some others played the game \u201cwerewolf\u201d \/ \u201cmafia\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the end of the event we were able to get back just in time before the storm.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>

\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\tThis semester we have already asked you to join us on trips to Mainz, Wiesbaden and Marburg (you can find pictures in the photo gallery), therefore we could not miss the opportunity to visit Heidelberg, a city famous for its university and romantic cityscape!\n\nWhen it comes to our events (especially on the weekend), we are usually not \u201cearly birds\u201d, but getting up at 8 am for this planned tour, packed full of small and big highlights, was definitely worth it!\n\nWe started with a steep ascent over the Philosophers\u2019s walk \u2013 which is told to be visited by many famous philosophers and poets in the past \u2013 and were rewarded with a great view of the river Neckar, the Old Bridge and the picturesque Old Town with the Heidelberg Castle on the hill\n\nYou can see it yourself on this photo!\n\n\"\"\n\nOf course, we could not miss to see the castle and the Old town up close. For culture enthusiasts the visit of the Castle and the German Pharmacy Museum is a must. With the same \u201cCastle ticket\u201d, you can also use the \u201cBergbahn\u201d, a funicular railway that runs from the Old Town to the hill K\u00f6nigsstuhl.\n\nWe let the rest of the day pass in the Old Town, where all students could find a place to relax among numerous restaurants and cafes, before we finally went home tired, but happy.\n\n\"\"\n\nITT has quite a few interesting city tours for you hold in store, just have a look at \u201cEvents\u201d on our homepage or our colourful program flyers!\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tSummer time is strawberry time! Therefore, we invited students to join us on a sunny Sunday to pick strawberries.\n\nThe strawberries were \u201cawaiting\u201d us on the \u201cSpargelhof Appel\u201d, a local farm in Darmstadt Kranichstein.\n\n\"\"\n\nEquipped with bowls or Tupperware boxes, we could not only pick juicy strawberries but also taste them on the spot. A few participants have already joined us in an earlier summer semester and could give the \u201cnew strawberry pickers\u201d some hints to find ripe and tasty strawberries.\n\nA small hint from us: The big and dark purplish-red strawberries are great for mixing a strawberry smoothie!\n\n\"\"\n\nSwitching between eating strawberries and picking strawberries, all students could successfully fill their boxes to the edges.\n\nITT has invited students to join them on their event \u201cstrawberry picking\u201d for several semesters. Once again, we had a lot of fun with you and we are already looking forward to the next strawberry season in summer semester 2019!\n\n\"\"\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t

In the beginning of May we have discovered the airport of Frankfurt during a round trip. After a security check, which also has to be done from every employee, we got on a bus and for the next 1.5 hours got a ride across the airport.<\/p>\n

During the tour, we were able to wonder at different types of airplanes, small private jets, the biggest passenger plane A 380, the newest plane from Airbus A 321 and cargo planes.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

Our tour guide was very entertaining and told us some interesting, odd and funny details about the FRAport. To the amusement of Brazilian participants, he called planes from Brazil \u201cMango bomber\u201d, as they also carry fresh mangos. We learnt that an airplane on the ground at the airport just causes costs to the airline because of fees for landing, parking, taking off, etc. and that\u2019s why ground times are as short as possible. The heart of the airport is the computer-operated machine to transport and sort luggage. It is completely underground and has a total length of 81 km. Benno, the cash beagle, is hard-working, for example in 2016 he sniffled 54 Mio \u20ac of cash. Wooden objects are always suspicious and just shortly 6.2 kg of cocaine were discovered in a wooden piano from South America. What\u2019s more, there is an animal lounge for elephants, hippos, tigers, \u2026 if they for example have to travel on the plane for zoos.<\/p>\n

All participants were impressed from the numerous airplanes and some got wanderlust and planned where to go next...<\/p>\n

IGeMDa and the Intercultural Tutors Team invited to the tour \u201cWelcome to Darmstadt\u201d at the beginning of the summer semester. During nice and sunny weather, we were exploring some sights of Darmstadt together.<\/p>\n

We started our tour at the Karo 5 with a view to the \u201cSchloss\u201d, the \u201cHessisches Landesmuseum\u201d and the public record office. The next stop was the \u201cDarmstadtium\u201d that has its name from the element darmstadtium, which was discovered in 1994 in Darmstadt, and is a science and congress center. Following next was the Mathildenh\u00f6he, with the Russian Chapel, which was built on special imported earth from Russia, and the wedding tower or also called \u201cFive-Finger tower\u201d because of its shape and known as the town\u2019s landmark.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

After having climbed the stairs, we had a nice view of Darmstadt and its surroundings.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

The tour continued through the park of the \u201cRosenh\u00f6he\u201d and the \u201cOberfeld\u201d until we reached the \u201cOberwaldhaus\u201d, a popular destination of the habitants of Darmstadt. There we had a picnic, played frisbee and enjoyed the sun.<\/p>\n

Scavenger hunt (08.04.2018)<\/b>\">Scavenger hunt (08.04.2018)<\/b>\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\t\t\t

In the beginning of the summer semester, ITT challenged students to a scavenger hunt through Darmstadt.<\/p>\n

The students had to solve small riddles or tasks at each station to find out where the next station could be found.<\/p>\n

Of course, the tutors themselves tested all riddles, tasks and prices before. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

Starting point was Karo 5, other stations were \u201cLanger Lui\u201d (Luisenplatz), Staatstheater, Mathildenh\u00f6he and Herrngarten.<\/p>\n

The challenge for all participants at each station was not only solving tasks but also finding the tutors who \u201chid\u201d at each station and could be identified by an ITT flyer in their hands.<\/p>\n

The task at Mathildenh\u00f6he was to build a small \u201chuman pyramid\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

All groups arrived successfully at the final station \u201cHerrngarten\u201d. The tutors had prepared gummy bears for all participants and the first two groups were surprised with a voucher for an ice-cream parlour.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Considering the warm spring weather with 24 degrees Celsius and bright sunshine, nearly all students decided to finish the day with one, two or three scoop(s) of ice cream.<\/p>\n

Last but not least: For the next scavenger hunt there will be new riddles and tasks!<\/p>\n

2.Solution: Herrngarten (The letter \u201cD\u201c becomes letter \u201cH\u201c, so that means that each letter becomes the fourth letter following in the alphabet.)<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Before the turn of the year and in the middle of the Advent season, ITT invited students from Darmstadt to visit the wonderful Christmas Market in old-town of Michelstadt. After a side trip to castle F\u00fcrstenau, built in the 14th century, we strolled through the busy Christmas market.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the streets and alleys around the famous historic Town Hall out of the year 1484 festively decorated stands offered everything the heart desired. On the one hand there were many goods which would make an ideal present, on the other hand hot beverages, Cr\u00eape by the \u201eWeltmeistercafe\u201c, potato pancakes and many more hearty to sweet dishes were offered in abundance.<\/p>\n

In the late evening, it was already time for the return, hands and feet were a bit cold but stomachs were full with warm food and\/or beverages and the cozy atmosphere from the Christmas Market could still be felt on the train back.<\/p>\n
